Features & Tools

The general idea for this software is to provide ideas and designs for apartments. The exterior features and tools are very limited. One of the tools we found helpful was the Virtual Visit. It is a view that you can use to get a walk-through kind of look as you move throughout the design. You can customize the height and the angles. It takes no time to load and gives you a very realistic approach.

There are two options when it comes to accessing the software. This product is free and is available as an online version or a downloadable version. We found the online version to be easier to use. With the downloadable version you must import most of the objects to put in your design. If you have the online version, then all of the available objects are already imported and you can simply click and drag.

There are not many objects to choose from. This limits the options for designs that you can create, but you can give yourself a basic idea of what your design could look like. The amount of materials is also limited leaving the wall colors and hard surfaces pretty basic.

This is an international product and is available in very many languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Swedish, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Greek, Bulgarian, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese.

Ease of Use

Interior designing is made very easy with Sweet Home 3D. It is the fastest software we have used. The walls can be set at the angle of your choice, which can be a good and bad thing. The software is for people wanting results fast and not too in-depth.

Because the objects are simplified, it takes little time for them to load in the 3D view. They are realistic; however, you cannot customize them very well. If you change the color of a fridge, the entire fridge will be that color. You cannot change the color of handles or specific features of objects.

Sweet Home 3D is a great little product for beginners. We found it easy to learn and use. The product itself is not very advanced and is more for getting a feel for the layout that you want in a house, versus the actual look. The objects and materials are limited, but we found it sufficient for basic needs. This is a fun free little software for anyone at any age to enjoy.
